Adventure photo tour Etna and Aeolian Islands

An adventure photo tour to the volcanoes of southern Italy

The starting point of this special photo and volcano trip is Naples. From here we first take the night ferry to the island of Stromboli, where we stay for two days to photograph the nocturnal eruptions. By ferry or speedboat we change to the main island of Lipari, where we have our second hotel base. From here we explore the main island itself as well as the neighboring islands of Vulcano, Filicudi and / or Panarea on extended day excursions. From Lipari we cross over to Milazzo in Sicily and drive to Taormina, where we have our

move into last quarters. From Taormina we take excursions to Mount Etna, the Alcantara Gorge and visit the medieval city of Taormina with the Greco-Roman theater and Castelmola. On the penultimate day we drive to Catania, move into our hotel near the airport and take a short evening excursion to Catania for dinner.

The Aeolian Islands and the summit region of Mount Etna are still far away from the major tourist routes in Italy. To this day, the islands can only be reached by ship and speedboat; there is no airport. This is a bit time-consuming for travelers, but only a few tourists come to the islands and the sea voyage is a leisurely journey. The steep volcanic cones require surefootedness (= safe walking in pathless, steep and sometimes stony terrain). The height differences are up to 920 meters in the ascent and in the descent (Stromboli ascent). We are mostly on volcanic rock and need good walking stamina.
